Abigail Evans
Speech and Language Therapist

Abigail Evans is a highly experienced Independent Speech and Language Therapist with over 20 years’ experience supporting children and young people with a wide range of speech, language, communication and eating and drinking needs across education and healthcare settings.

Having worked alongside Amanda (“Mandy”) for more than two decades within NHS Haringey, Abigail has supported pupils across both mainstream and special schools, developing a strong reputation for delivering personalised, child-centred interventions that promote communication, participation and independence.

Abigail also worked within a specialist education setting in Loughton, supporting children and young people with autism and complex educational needs, including those who present with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profiles. Her approach is grounded in understanding each young person’s individual strengths, interests and learning journey, ensuring that support is tailored to enable meaningful participation both within school and beyond.

Passionate about promoting health and wellbeing through functional, real-life experiences, Abigail established an innovative school allotment project where children were involved in growing, harvesting and preparing their own produce. This therapeutic approach provided opportunities to develop communication skills, expressive language, social interaction, emotional wellbeing and independence, while also supporting eating and drinking abilities through positive, hands-on experiences with food.

Abigail’s areas of expertise include:

  • Specialist assessment and intervention for speech, language and communication needs.

  • Assessment and management of eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.

  • Supporting children and young people with autism and complex communication needs, including those with PDA profiles.

  • Delivering universal, targeted and specialist interventions across educational settings.

  • Promoting communication through meaningful, functional activities that support

  • participation and independence.

  • Collaborative working with families, schools and multidisciplinary teams to
    achieve shared outcomes.

Abigail works within the SCERTS® Framework, placing social communication, emotional regulation and transactional support at the heart of intervention. She believes that every child communicates in their own way and that by understanding each individual’s strengths, motivations and environment, professionals can create opportunities for children and young people to thrive.

At The Wellbeing Den, Abigail is committed to working collaboratively with children, families, schools and professionals to deliver neuro-affirming, evidence-informed support that enables every young person to reach their potential and participate confidently in everyday life.
